Excerpt from Upper Corner Kitchen Cabinet Installation Tips From The Expert :
If you need to cut a filler and attach it to the upper corner kitchen cabinet do this next. It will be a good idea to hold a level against the wall where the filler will be installed to see if there are any dips or humps to account for. If you need to cut the filler crooked in order to get the cabinet to be installed plumb, then cut the filler crooked. The installation of all the cabinets must be level, plumb, and square. All of the alterations to ensure the cupboards get installed level should be done on the fillers.
One of the first steps is to find where the studs or furring strips are located. I do this by tapping on the drywall with my knuckles first. After I find a location where I think there is one, I begin drilling three-sixteenths inch holes in various places. These holes should be drilled in an area where the upper corner kitchen cabinet will cover them up once they are installed. When I hit the stud, I mark it. Next, I measure over sixteen inches from the mark and tap on the wall again looking for the next stud. Repeat the process until all of them are located and marked.
